LEWISBURG — Mary Madeline Gum Jones, 89, formerly of Rupert, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at Brier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness.
Born October 31, 1921, in Hughart, she was the daughter of the late Floyd Mitchell and Grace Mae Clowser Gum.
Mary was a member of the Graystone Baptist Church and was a seamstress and inspector for a sewing factory in Rainelle.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Elza Bub Jones, in 1980; son, Dudley James Jones; sisters, Verdie Brackenridge, Edith Tingler and Frances Dancy; and brother, Floyd M. Gum Jr.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda K. Jones Hanna of Lewisburg; grandchildren, Cindy Durham of Rainelle, Stephanie Maiello of Ronceverte, Heather Johnson of Elkton, Md., Angela Jones of Quinwood, and Michael Jones of Rupert; seven great- grandchildren; sisters, Bertha Brackenrich, Ora Barnes and Genevieve Kirby, all of Detroit, Mich.; and brother, Cecil Gum, of Michigan.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 27, at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Lewisburg with Rev. Youell Altizer officiating. Burial will follow at the Wallace Memorial Cemetery.
