Mommys Day

We got a late start this morning.  Teresa helped me give her a bath before she left, Mommy held on the the back of a chair and stood up while we washed her and she did good at weight bearing its just getting her feet to move and that will take time or may never improve but if she can stand and pivot and feel like she is contributing then that's enough for me.  I wheeled her down to the elevators when Teresa left and we watched kids from the high school walk off the tennis courts.  She raised up in her chair to see the last one go.  I told her it might be Jacob or Tanner; that sparked an interest!

She ate good today.  Salmon for lunch with mashed potatoes, yellow wax beans and buttered potatoes for supper with chopped steak( she didn't do the steak)  but did enjoy the beans.  I try everything before I give it to her then she acts like if I don't make a terrible face she will eat it.  She had cake too and ice cream.  Not a lot of any of it but little bites add up. She had some blueberries after lunch and she chewed and chewed on the skin and of course the longer she chewed the more bitter they became.  So I told her to chew the good out of it then spit out the rest and she ate quite a few.  I told her to eat as much as she wanted but when she was done I wanted her to tell me.  And she did,  she said I am done.

She had several of her church family there today.  Harvey Bryant, Jean and Robie Midkiff, Georgia, Susan Hutsenpiller, Wanda-Alma's daughter-, plus all the friendly staff from the floor. Danny popped in this evening and she even knew him.  She hasn't known him for a long time-even before the stroke! She has gotten several cards and I hung them up on her wall so it at least looks homey!
I thought she was going to break out in song and dance when Harvey Bryant was there.  He was talking about Heaven and remembering all that Mommy has prayed for him and how she could always lift his spirits; she smiled soooo big.  That is him in the picture I am posting.  Then when the Midkiffs came they talked about wanting to hear her sing I'm Wading Through Deep Water,  I think she would so love to go to church and see her church family.  I told them I was going to get her there even if she comes in her recliner, gown and housecoat, blanket and pillow!  They thought that would be wonderful.  They even said it wouldn't matter if she slept through the service, there were others that nodded off too!  So that is my mission.

I gave Mommy a Malibu Treatment for her scalp.  Its supposed to be good for thinning hair.  I got it from Danny's sister who is a beautician.  Covered the bed with pads and wrapped her neck in towels and went to scrubbing.  She really enjoyed getting her head scrubbed.  While I was at it I cut about 3 inches of dead hair off and I showed it to her.  She had to feel it then reach back and feel to make sure there was some left!  Then I combed it out on her pillow to dry.  That's when Rita came in.  She rested well today without pain meds and her physical therapist walked her a third of the way up the hall.  She is still planning on coming home Friday if all goes well.

I did ask her if she ever got tired and wanted to go on to Heaven and she looked at me and said "yes"  Then I asked, "Mommy, are you tired now and ready to go to Heaven?"  and again she said "yes"
She told Harvey Bryant she was just waiting on him to call her name!  I told him she was hard of hearing so was listening real good for that call and that would be one she would definitely hear!  I also told her when God got ready for her not to hang on for us because we knew she was going to a better place and we would all see her there someday with Daddy.  That brought big smiles and a few tears!
What she is lacking in physical strength right now, God has graced her with peace of mind and I thank him for that!
