After 69 years they begin to look frail.
Their eyes not as bright, their step not as sure
But their love still strong as all can tell.
More forgetful moments, more bad days than good,
but still by each others side, like they said they would.
He knows he hasn't much time, but worries only about her.
How will she get along without him, who will remind her of
times that were.
She sees his weakness and worries and frets,
she thinks of younger years, like when they first met.
They started their life together in 1940, through good times and bad, they have traveled the bumpy road known as life.
But even the happiest times will eventually end in strife.
As he takes his last breath, she lays by his side.
A tear runs down his cheek as he has glimpsed Heavens streets of gold ever so wide.
She knows her loss is Heavens gain, his loved ones that have gone on before are welcoming him home, but she must remain.
Strolling together in Heaven hand in hand, side by side, is her dream as she lays down to sleep, thinking that is where she wants to abide.
