Ruth you had it pretty close...vermifuge. If you look it up on google you will see that it mostly talks about it being used on cats and dogs. Ha ha ha But then it also says that the chinese use it in all their herbs. Grandma was ahead of her time with the knowledge of the herbs. Actually I think that it is the active ingredient in the medicine they used to give as pills for pin worms. I know I took it once but can't remember the name of it, but I know it made me really really sick and it was purple.
O didn't know that you got off the bus at grandmas and stayed the night. Did you guys walk all the way back to her house, I guess?

Hello, guys! I am Ruth Treadway Cadle (Ralph's second oldest). What do I remember at Grandma's and Grandpa's? Going there to spend the night off the school bus. Randy and I would be there and Grandma would make fried potatoes and salad with Wishbone Italian Dressing. I thought that salad was to die for, because we never got store bought dressing that I can remember. And it seems that some of us kids always got caught going into the bedroom and pedaling the Singer sewing machine when we would visit. I remember making applebutter in the yard right off the kitchen. And using the handpump to get water. The teakettle always weighed a ton, even empty, because of the sulphur buildup in the bottom from the water. And Grandma always "wormed" us kids with some kind of plant called, the best I remember, "Vermifuse." As nasty as it tasted, it should have been called "Wormifuse." Whatever the real name was, I am sure that I slaughtered it. And Grandma's jelly. Mommy could not make jelly. Her's either ran like syrup or you couldn't get the spoon out of it, it was so thick. I didn't like the pure elderberry jelly though. And Grandma coming to deliver babies. Rita, I remember in particular because Mommy was having a difficult time and Daddy woke me up to be there while he drove to Grandma's to get her. Boy, was I scared. But Grandma showed up, and so did God!

What I remember of my Grandparents are the flowers in the yard. They were kinds that we didn't have. Big and beautiful. Grandma's gigantic carrots out of her garden. They were so sweet and parsnips too. I loved her canned biscuits. We didn't have those at home. Mom always made them. Myrtles fried potatoes in that humongous skillet, just like I like them. I loved the gatherings too. We always had watermelon out in the pond or the spring? Didn't we? Janis does all of your family get together during the year at special times?
To all I will keep you posted. I remember at Grandma's is Daddy taken me into the woods when I was about 7 and him acting like he was lost. Asking me how to get out of the woods I told him to follow the spring water and we came out on the dirt road at the bottom of the house. I thought I was something . Went and told Mama what happened. Later on I thought about it as I got older. Duh he knew them hills , he knew where he was all along. He just wanted to see if I would panic. And I can remember setting on the porch with grandpal drinking orange Nehi. And going fishing. And looking for worms in that bathtub he out in the yard. And eating them cherries off the tree.
Addy, I am suprised at you , Not liking your very famous menu of Ramps!!!!!!!!! you would be the talk of the town girlfriend. Whats up with that.LOL.
Rita I cant believe she dosent like your menu!
Talking about going to grandma Treadways ,did she still have the old turkeys that were mean? I was scared to death of them.I hated them turkeys, that was before I knew they were good to eat. Sweet revenge, would'nt you say?
Janis be sure and tell your dad we will keep him in our prayers, and hope he is feeling better.
Now all we have to do is get more of our cousins to start blogging.

I remember going to grandma's and then always going over to Myrtles...And I remember whenever we had a dinner, I always looked for Alma's chicken from the chicken hut. Loved that chicken. Playing in the creek in front of Myrtles house. I remember the big weeping willow tree in the yard and we would help daddy mow and I always hated beating that thing out of the way before it smacked me in the face. I would like to take my kids there...I don't think I have been there since Grandma died!
Oh yeah, I remember the chicken house too Rita!

Janis~We're hoping all is well. Do keep us posted. For those of you who are reading this and may not know who Janis is, she is Grandpa Ralph's niece. She is his brother, Lee's, youngest daughter. When we were young'uns and we would have get together's at Grandma Treadway's (Grandpa's mom) house, that was the only time we got to see our cousins. Unlike you who can see your cousins anytime there is an occasion to have dinner at Grandma and Grandpa Treadways. Needless to say, we didn't get to know them very well, only seeing them once a year. We always looked forward to the little time we had though. Uncle Lee reminds me alot of Uncle Dave, most of you remember him. Janis, tell your family we would love to hear from them. Tell them all hello and tell your dad, we are praying for him. In case you didn't figure it out, Addy is my daughter and she is getting married, April 11. She did it at Easter so all of my family could come. We always have the biggest crowd at Mommy's for Easter.
Those of you reading this, what do you remember about going to Grandma Treadway's? I remember that blasted chicken house and the roosters. There was always a mean rooster on the loose. Ha!!

You should bring Mommy a mess today! You know Daddy won't let her dig them until they get big and tough. It is so foggy here this morning you can't see squat! Temps are high fortys! The flowers are starting to pop their heads out of the dirt, Jacob saw a Robin in the yard last week. Daddy dug up a bunch of his daffodils for me to set out, looks like today will be a good day for that!

It is just March 15 and I have already had my second mess of ramps. We went up on the hill above our house and dug them. You have to know where to dig cause they're not up yet, but if you scrape the leaves back, they are just coming through the dirt!! They are about an inch and a half long and they are so tender. Pretty Stout too! I know that is making your mouth water!!!
It was so funny in church this morning, Olivia was asked if she saw God in Grammaw Vivian and she said yeah, then told everyone where she was sitting and that she was sitting beside Nana and Daddy, but daddy had to take Kaiden somewhere. It was so cute!
Zac and I are headed back to Athens today. This past week was our spring break, and it was springy towards the beginning of it but now it's back to the cold and snow. =P
I'm so ready for spring!
It looks like our Blog is going silent....Now come on, if you're a Treadway, I know you want to put in your 2 cents worth!! It is a foggy day here on Backus Mtn. I went to church this morning and it was good. Mommy came this Morning. Daddy didn't though, he must not have been feeling good. Mommy has a Drs. appt. tomorrow, which Trish will be taking her to. I'm going to clean for her. If Trish takes Daddy too, I'll get alot done. I just can't clean the room they stay in when they are napping all day!! Ya'll take care and let us hear what's going on in your world.
