update on Dan

Good Morning friends and family,
Just wanted to give you all an update on Danny.  Not sure if you all know, but he had surgery on a mass on his chest last week at UVA for what we and the doctors  all thought was a mass of blood clots caused from the coumadin he takes for his heart valve.  Turns out it is cancerous and the preliminary report is Sarcoma(type unknown) and we will find out the full pathology report on our return visit on Thursday.  He will need a second surgery for wide excision and to make sure the margins are clear.  From there he may need chemo and/or radiation.  He is very weak right now but is having less pain than he has for months.  In looking at our options, the best route seems to be a Sarcoma clinic.  The Mayo clinic is #3 on the list of cancer centers in America that treat Sarcomas.  Apparently it is quite rare.  Our family physician has connections at this clinic, her son is currently been treated for sarcoma there.  There is an experimental drug being used right now at only 3 hospitals in the US.  One of those is the Mayo clinic.  He is scheduled for a PET scan hopefully next week.  He can't have MRI's because of his heart valve.  We won't know anything else until after our appt on thursday  and then I will send you all an update.  Right now the best thing you can do for us is pray!  I know many of you are already doing that.  Pass it on to your churches, put it on facebook, whatever you need to do to get the word across.  We are expecting a miracle!
Love and prayers to all,
Trish
