White elephant gift
Thanks for reminding me Rita, everyone please, please please bring your white elephant gift when you come in for the New Years celebration. Put it on your calendars: December 29th at 12:00!!!!!!!
Apparently I have missed something...what is wrong with Brett? Did he have some kind of surgery? We will be praying for him and Trina. Teresa, glad to hear your Aunt is home. I take it things are going well for her. We should be in for New Year's. I might can bring some biscuits with me :) We have been doing some cleaning out the last week so we have our White Elephant gifts lol.
We need to pray for Trina (Dwayne's daughter)...she had gall bladder surgery a couple of months ago and she is having complications (don't know the details) from the surgery. Teresa, As far as I know, we wouldn't miss it. You forgot to mention the White Elephant game, if you want to have it. You will have to mention it several times...seems they love to play it but have trouble remembering to bring the gift.
New Years get together!
We are going to have our New Years get together the Saturday after Christmas which will be Dec. 29th if I figured correctly. I was thinking around 12:00 for those of you that can come. We are going to keep things really simple so that everyone can enjoy our time together. I will be fixing BBQ weenies, chicken salad with crescent rolls, and some kind of dessert. I am recommending that people make finger foods or something simple. Ideas: cheese balls with crackers, salsas with chips, quiches, pinwheels of different kinds, cookies , candies, salads, etc. bring whatever you wish but I was just trying to make it easy on everyone and of course if you don't mind bring your own drinks(it's just to hard for me to buy what everyone likes). Monica those biscuits you made during our reunion were delicious (hint, hint), I would like the recipe for those.
Vonda- I am so sorry to hear about Brett, we will be praying for him and all the family.
Alice-I pray you are doing well and you are always in our prayers
David-so glad everything is working out for you also, we will continue to pray that everything is good from here on out.
For those of you who may know my Aunt Judy Leo had a heart attack last Monday. They found the blockage and put a stint in and she was released Thanksgiving day, she is thankfully in Florida with her daughter April and her family recouping.
For everyone else- I can't wait to see you all on the 29th and please be praying for good weather for those that live away, that they may make it in. Love you all!

Hey Everybody!
I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I don't think I have any pictures to share right now, but I will soon enough. Paul and I had a pretty busy week but it was just nice to be able to spend time together and not have to worry about grading papers and all that junk!
Alice, it's so good to hear from you! Paul asks about you all the time and says "Hello!"
Trish, I keep checking the postings for you and will let you know if anything good comes up!
We had dinner at Mom's on Monday since everybody had other places to be on Thursday. So we had turkey all week long. Paul and I went hunting for a few hours Thursday morning and didn't see anything. Then Paul went hunting again Friday for a few hours and got a 3-point. He hasn't been hunting in at least 15 years he said, and this is only the 2nd deer he's ever killed. Paul said when he worked for the railroad he never had enough seniority to take vacation days during hunting season so he just gave up on it.
Well, he was hunting on his dad's property right across the road from our house. There are some logging roads that lead all the way to the bottom of the hill but they zigzag and are pretty grown up. He actually texted me to let me know he killed a deer and I knew he was going to need help getting it out of there. I decided to be a good wife and put my coveralls on! Little did I know that he shot the stupid deer at the extreme depths of his dad's property. The whole time I was walking down through the briars and across the rocks I kept thinking "I did not sign up for this." Finally, we reached the deer and since it was only the 2nd one Paul had ever killed, I had to field dress it for him. Again, I did not sign up for this. But I did let him know that he is one lucky man because I am a woman of much knowledge and many talents! It only took us about an hour to drag it out and we had some for breakfast this morning, mmm mmm good!
We also got our Christmas tree put up and we baked a lot this week too. I'm getting ready to go back to school tomorrow and have been working on lesson plans all day. Ohhhh, I'm so ready for Christmas break! Talk to you all soon! I'm already excited for New Year's with everybody! Love you guys!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING everyone! Happy belated birthday Monica! Really, Marleigh and I didn't forget! Hope you had a great day. Oh, I'm thankful too for your new job you will start in a few days!
Trish, God has a job for you too! Remember what Mommy told Daddy years ago, and it is still true today, "That if God has a job for you, do you think he is gonna give it to someone else! You just have to go down there and get it." She told him this when Buck and he was going to the Lumber Mill to get a job. Daddy didn't think he would get the job because he was older. BUT GOD, knew that one of the requirements for the job was for the person to be settled in the community. And you could not get more settled than Daddy and his bunch of kids! He had built his home and was there to stay. We were helping him get his job and didn't even know it! That's funny :) So be encouraged Trish, He has all kinds of people working on our behalf! We speak a job for you and God says, "WE WILL HAVE WHAT WE SAY!"

Come on everyone, let's light up the blog with all of our thanksgiving blessings this year! I'll be first . . . . . Let me see . . . I'm thankful for Jesus and His saving grace that is still amazing! For the hope that is alive in my heart that He is going to save that brother of mine! I'm thankful for family (their love and support in our trials in life.) I'm thankful for the many times we gathered at Thanksgiving over the years and the memories we now have to share with our grand kids. I'm thankful for my church family who look after our souls as well. I'm thankful for the new life, God's precious gift, to our young couples in our family. Now I know what Mommy and Daddy saw in OUR kids. Grandchildren have a way of smoothing over the rough patches. "I love you, Nena!" There is just nothing to match that. I'm thankful for health to go about my day and do what I feel God has put in my heart. For each new day that He gives me and the attitude to meet it head on because "This is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!" And I could go on and on but . . . Next . . .
The blog is working in our neck of the woods too. I've noticed not a lot of activity on it in the last week or so. I'm sure everyone is busy getting ready for the holiday. I'd like to see some pics of Blain's deer and anyone else that has been blessed to get one (or more lol). I'd like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving :) Be careful in your travels and enjoy your time with loved ones. Miss you guys, love to all. xoxo
Yes Daniel, the blog is working...or at least, it is for me. How are the hunters doing? Jacob? Steve, how many have they taken out of your woods? Blain has been quite successful this year. He shot one above an old logging road that runs right below our property line and it ran down the mountain and dropped about 5 feet in front of the 4-wheeler...in the road. I'm canning pickled corn today. What's everybody else doing?

Doing very well since my latest stent installation on Monday. I worked Friday most of the day with no ill effects. Tim, I need to make you aware of the association between Sleep Apnea and CAD (Coronary Artery Disease). Seems that most experts believe that the first causes the second. I first needed the CPAP machine 14 years ago so you better have your doctor order you a nuclear stress test to determine if you have evidence of blockage in any of your arteries. You don't need any of them to get as bad as mine was (100%, 95% and 80%) before something is done about it. It is a miracle that I did not have a heart attack, both doctors and nurses told me that while I was in the hospital. If any of the rest of you have symptoms that suggest you have sleep apnea, then the same goes for you. Have the doctors test forblockages that may even now be forming. Read this paper on the subject and this link. http://ttuhsc.edu/som/internalmedicine/pulm/education/other_references/sh_osa_cad_sleep_med_reviews_2008.pdf
All this week, since my arteries have been open, I have found that I cannot sleep all night with the CPAP machine. I can go to sleep with it but once I wake up to go the bathroom, I am unable to go back to sleep with it, it's just like I don't need it. So I took it off and I was able to go to sleep the rest of the night without the machine and I was not snoring. Doctors agree there is an association between the two but some disagree on which came first, perhaps the CAD caused the Sleep Apnea. As I learn more, I will let eveyone know. As for now, I am MUCH IMPROVED!
Thank you for all your prayers.

Hey
Just wanted to let you know that everything went well with David today. They had a little trouble with an extreme narrowing in one artery so they ballooned it and put in a stent. So now he has 4 stents. His color is so much better already and he is breathing soooo much better. Should be able to come home tomorrow.
Am exhausted so will hush for now.

A RETIREE'S LAST TRIP to Piggy Wiggly
Yesterday I was at my local Piggy Wiggly buying a large bag of Purina
dog chow for my loyal pet, Jake, the Wonder Dog and was in the
check-out line when a woman behind me asked if I had a dog.
What did she think I had an elephant?
So because I'm retired and have little to do, on impulse I told her
that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again. I
added that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital
last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in an
intensive care ward with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and
IVs in both arms.
I told her that it was essentially a Perfect Diet and that the way
that it works is, to load your pants pockets with Purina Nuggets and
simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is
nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it
again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was
now enthralled with my story.)
Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care, because the dog
food poisoned me. I told her no, I stopped to Pee on a Fire Hydrant
and a car hit me.
I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was
Laughing so hard.
Piggy Wiggly won't let me shop there anymore.

Tim and Cindy again, To David, my big Brother! Our prayers are with you and your family.
God is good and is ALWAYS there for us. That is a great report, or what God has brought you through.
Cindy and I just got home yesterday evening, and most of you probably don't know, we had been at the hospital for the last 24 hours, after Cindy woke up in the morning, around 2am with severe chest pains, (as she put it) on a scale of one to ten, she said her pain was 25...I could NOT convince her to let me take her to the hospital, at that time... Long story short, she finally dozed off in the recliner and her breathing relaxed, and she slept. When she woke up later in the morning and got to her feet, it started all over again, at that time, she agreed to go the the hospital... After extended prayer, both here and at the hospital, and extended tests, the conclusion was, the tests showed some heart damage, and after some nitro pills, she was feeling better and they gave her a perscription (nitro pills) and they told her she could come home. She is resting today and feeling much better. Just wanted to let you guys know. We love you and thinking about you and praying for you...And, Yes, We are going to follow up with a specialist and get the "jest" of what's going on. God is Good.
Condolences from Timmy and Cindy!
Vonda, Our thoughts and prayers are of you and your family and extended family. I am remembering a quote from something in my past about the loss of a loved one. "As long as he is in our memories, he will always be with us." I think of Dad everyday, when I am going about the chores of the day! As I go about my work, especially as I get older, sometimes I think I will put something off until another day, or will start something and be too tired to finish it...I will hear DAD say, "If your not gonna do that right, then leave it alone!" It is like he is ALWAYS there, not physically, but nonetheless, ALWAYS there.
I am remembering David, the first time Bobbie and I EVER had Kentucky Fried Chicken! We we on our way to Michigan, the first time either of us had ever been out of State,
I think I was 12. You guys ask us, (after we had been on the road for several hours,) if we was hungry, Ahh, YEAH,,,LOL and David pulled into a KFC and got all kinds of goodies, (Bucket of Chicken, Crispy, bowl of Gravey, bowl of patatoes, bowl of green beans, and Biscuits with honey.) And I don't have to tell you how we dug in, as you may well remember... We pulled of the road, at a roadside table and had our first (Picnic) and just thought "that was the STUFF! David just sat there and grinned, like we were starving orphans that he had just rescued, and kept telling us to eat up, (like he really needed to)!
And then there was the day, you guys took Bobbie and I to the lake, for an all day of fun, with Jeff and Susan, and we all got sunburned really bad because we wouldn't keep the sunblock on, cause we keep getting in the water. David said, "guess that will learn ya,,,,in so many words....and it did! And then there is the time, you guys took us to Canada, (on the 4th of July) and we watched the fireworks, that was just awesome.
But most of all, and you most likely don't know this! Once when you guys were down home, David asked me to go to the store, at Dawson, with him one night, and you guys had just got a new car, (I think it was a Cadilac...anyway, when we came out of the store, David said ( YOU drive home, I am going to drink my soda.....WELL, who was I to argue with him, (I was only 13 or so....) so I got behind the wheel, and away we went, I felt like I had just got in the cockpit of a huge airplane! On the way back, on the long straight stretch, before the Old Stone Church, I dropped of the shoulder, barely being able to see the road, and David kinda just staightened up in the seat a bit and said, "Everything alright, Son" and I said, Yeah, I got this, just can't see the road...and then he showed me how to raise the seat...Ha...and then I was good to go...
And he let me drive the rest of the way home...I don't remember if we ever told anyone about that. And for a 13 year old, I don't have to tell you how COOL that was.
Anyway, I could go on and on, of the memories and with that, again, We LOVE you and you guys are prevalent in our hearts and minds, with all of our love.
Timmy and Cindy

Vonda, I'm so sorry. We are praying for you and the kids. What else can we do? This has been a year for loss in our family. I never have the wisest of words to say. I'm sure that Trish, having traveled this road already earlier this year will be able to offer wiser words that I. I believe that Momma and Daddy will be there to welcome David home. Know that we love you and intercede on your behalf during this time.
Please pray for David Thomas. Lorie just texted me that he is not doing well. He has not been eating and is throwing up this morning. He is mostly sleeping when he can.
Brother David, I am so thankful that you are doing well. God is Great!
Alice, it is great to hear that you are improving and gaining strength also.

Hey everyone, I am resting at home and chilling out. Thank you for all your prayers. I will obey the doctor's orders and Julie will make sure of that.
Wanted to share these before and after pictures with you of the lower right quadrant of the heart. It was deprived of blood flow until the stent was in place.
I am amazed at the difference in my breathing after the procedure. Can't wait until after they do the other two on Nov. 12. Will keep you posted.
Blain we are praying for you.
Love you all

Hey
David had complications in the stent surgery yesterday. They were going to fix the artery that was 100% blockage and 95% blockage. He opted to have stents instead of the Triple By-pass.
When they got in there they could not do just one stent in that 100% blocked artery and neither could they do a by-pass. They called in another Cardiologist and the 2 decided to try a new procedure which place one stent in the artery from the front and another from the back. (Simply called one in front of the other).
The heart was dead where this artery was because there was no blood flow in that area.
Well, the new procedure worked (2 hrs. about 45 minute ordeal), and praise the Lord the artery started allowing to blood flow in that area.
However, they have decided to let the heart rest now for 2 weeks and then he will have the other 2 stents placed.
The Miracle was not that God healed him because He didn't. The miracle was that 3 Cardiologists are amazed that he had suffered no chest pains nor did he have a heart attack. He has had times of shortness of breath along with pain in the front of his neck (immediate sore throat) and some prickling on the insides of his arms down to his elbows. He would sit down and rest for some 10-15 minutes and these symptoms would leave. He simply thought he was out of shape or his machine was not working.
He has had these symptoms since the beginning of this year. He thought he needed to exercise more (but could not muster up the motivation, thank God) or it was his sleep apnea machine not doing it's job.
So the Miracle was the 'keeping power' of Jesus Christ in preventing him from having a heart attack all this time. Even if the 3 Cardiologists did not come right out and say it they know they have witnessed the power of One greater than they because the chances of one not having a heart attack under such duress is slim to none.
Well, Rita ask me to put this testimony on the blog and so I have.
Oh, he is home and resting. In fact, I hear him snoring. Ha!

Whoo Hoo!!
PRAISE THE LORD! He is having some trouble gettin' on up the straight stretch but I can get out the Meadow Bridge side. They sent a grader, a utility truck full of men (Blain said their job is to cut out trees and such, a second truck and a truck with a blade. If I had known they were coming I would have had a pan of cinnamon rolls waiting on them. Really!! Addy took hot chocolate to the AEP guys the other day. Hey, maybe the next time we get a big snow, I might not be the last one on the list ;)
Yes, David we are praying here, as well. And I would like to hear from Daniel and Alice too. How did Shane weather the storm up North? I thought about him. Our status ...Still snowing, Blain is still losing at dominoes! We have scraped, plowed and shoveled everything we can get to. We are glad we don't have cows to feed in this mess. When I called the DOT yesterday, they said that they hoped to open Backus today. They had to get a piece of equipment from Monroe County. We haven't seen anyone since Monday. Maybe today!!

Hey Everybody! They cleared our road so Paul and I decided to celebrate, with a homemade donut fry! We invited our neighbors, and Janet and Matthew brought the kids over. Paul and I made dinner: porkchops, fried potatoes, dumplins, and green beans. Then we had dirt cake and donuts for dessert (cinnamon-sugar and glazed!) Everybody had a good time, except the dogs. They were stuck in the bedroom the whole time.

So Monday night Mark and Mar were at home and there's a knock on the door. Mind you this is when we were having the worst night of the storm (I think, been working it's all a blur right now :P) . Mark answers the door and it's one of our neighbors........"Hey Mark, you got a plunger I can borrow?" This fellow seems to have bad luck at the worst times! We don't mind helping but it can be quite comical at times lol. Mark invited him in so he would be out of the wind and cold. Mark went upstairs to get our plunger (one and only...and you can imagine the horror going through my mind while he's telling me this for I don't know exactly what's in other peoples toilets, have an idea but anywho, onward we go). Mark cleans the dust off of it (hadn't been used in a while) and brought it downstairs. I admire our friend for having the intention of returning it, however, Mark's reply....."Hey man, you can keep this, I think we have two." Praise the Lord!! So we now have another item on our grocery list.
I love the pics!! Marcia, what was the deer eating? Looks like apples maybe, couldn't tell. That was a beautiful pic though, perfect timing for your camera!!

Wow, you Treadway bloggers have been busy lately! It rained all day yesterday in Morgantown and then overnight it turned to snow and we got a couple inches. I think it's all supposed to turn back to rain by tomorrow though. I wish I was snowed in at home in Greenbrier county with no school and potato soup!
Zac and I are doing well, just staying busy (me with school and him with work/cleaning and cooking for me =) ). We will be praying for all of the medical stuff going on with everyone. Everybody listen to your doctors and spouses!

Hey Everyone
David has 3 blockages. 100%. . .95%. . .80%. Miracle he hasn't had a heart attack already. He was hurting in his neck and having prikles down the inside of his arms at the least excertion. He did not know this was symptoms of a blockage or heart attack and he did not tell me about it until 2 weeks ago when I made him go to the doctor.
He was given the choice of Triple By-pass or Splints. He chose splints. If that doesn't do well, he will have a Triple By-pass.
The first surgery will be Thursday Nov 1st. The second one will be November 12.
He is resting now. He is very tired most of the time.
I will keep you posted as things unfold in this event.
Love to all.
Julie
Ladybird made her bed in the kitchen floor when Paul was making breakfast. And Queen completely took over the couch after they played in the snow! Monica, it was exactly release of the hounds today. The only one it doesn't bother is Queen, the rest of them can't handle the wind. And in the 3rd picture, who can find the bloodhound first!

So glad to hear that everyone is safe and has power :) The pics are beautiful!! My first thought when I saw the furry ones was "RELEASE THE HOUNDS!!!" Looks like they were having as much fun as a human could have lol. Just don't take them sledding Addy :{ I must say that when you live out of the way from town it is a good thing to have a tractor, looks like Blain was enjoying himself. And yes I would also like to see Teresa plowing the hill heehee!! I now have a hankering for some potato soup and cornbread so I think I shall make some in the next day or so. Instead of cupcakes I think I'll make peanut butter cookies with the hershey kisses in the center. If any of you have trick-or-treaters tomorrow I will give them kudos for determination!! They may have to go by horse and carriage though!! Love to all, look forward to more pics
Hey Everybody!
I hope you're all staying warm! This is so depressing for me. Friday evening Paul and I left for South Carolina to visit his aunt and uncle, and Saturday morning I was walking on the beach. It was raining because of the storm, but it was still the beach! And I've decided I will take a stormy beach over feet of snow any day. I haven't seen sunshine since Sunday afternoon after we got to Charlotte.
The good thing about living here is that we get SNOW DAYS!!! I made a pot of potato soup last night with cornbread, and when I got on Facebook it seeemd like last night was universal potato soup day!
We still have power but there are several around us that don't. I heard a truck going by the house this morning so I opened the door to see who it was, AEP, and they went right in the ditch in front of the house! They just got out and the poor guys dug snow forever! I felt so bad for them so I took them some hot cocoa and they were very appreciative! I'll be checking in later. I think I'll make some resh rolls today, and maybe some cupcakes.
You're all in my prayers. Love you!

Just wanted to check in from Backus Mtn. Blain couldn't get out this
morning. Road is full. I have no idea how much snow we got...we are
getting some fierce wind up here. We are above the 3000 ft range. I
heard on the news that the Raleigh Co Airport was reporting 13 inches.
They are lower than we are. We are expecting snow through Thursday.

Yesterday when I got up at 3 it was snowing pretty hard but with the wind it wasn't sticking to anything. It has spit precipitation all night with high winds, had ice bubbles on my windshield this morning. There were several wrecks on interstate around here involving tracker trailers. I thought I was going to get blown to my door this morning!! We had the tv on in our break room all night last night so we were able to keep up with all the weather reports, videos and pics. I've been keeping my eye on you guys in WV :) I'm seriously thinking about forgoing the trick-or-treat trail tomorrow evening as I just saw the temps aren't getting out of the 50's and probably still on the windy side. Oh well, Mar will have a new red dress with black dots..................she can be a ladybug every day!!! Yea!!!! Love to all, keep warm nite nite
David and Blain, I'll be keeping you guys in my prayers. xoxo

Hey everyone, just wanted to give you a doctor's report. Have been having shortness of breath so I went to the doctor and she ordered a nuclear stress test that revealed abnormalities of the heart, maybe blockage like Jay had. They will go in tomorrow and look around then determine how bad it is and whether they can treat it with meds or if they need to put in a splint. Did not expect this but that is what they say at this point. Will know more after the procedure tomorrow and will keep everyone posted. Just say a prayer for me.
David
Hey Ya'll
This is a whopper of a storm by the reports I'm watchin' from the Weather Channel. We have about 3 - 4 inches already. It is just snowing normally right now, but the Weather Center in Charleston has said that by 5 this evening, we should expect blizzard conditions. I have ran up water (like mother, like daughter) in the wringer washer downstairs and I'm filling clean containers and putting them in the frig downstairs. Yes, we have a generator but I don't know how to hook it up. (I'm going to work on that). That is just in case Blain doesn't make it home. A couple of years ago, he was stranded out for about 3 days. I didn't really care for that!! It would be nice to hear how the weather is at your place...maybe even a few pics. Timmy and Cindy, you can post some pics from the Blue Ridge Mtns. I imagine you will get dumped on, as well. I see that the Weather Channel has someone stationed at Snowshoe. I am anxiously awaiting her reports.
On another note, Blain is scheduled for a Spinal Fusion on Dec 4th and 6th. It is possibly, going to be a 2-part surgery. As some of you know, his legs have been atrophying (losing muscle) for about 10 years and the professionals have always blamed it on the chemo and/or the radiation. Recently, his physical therapist referred him to an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon who took a look at an old MRI from 2007 and saw that a bulging disc was pinching off his spinal cord. He believes it is very possible that his problem is coming from this. He did tell us that it would be like lifting a car off of someone...he may not be able to repair the damage already done but that it would prevent further damage. He said he was going to go in and lift the car up! He will have his surgery at Raleigh General Hosp. in Beckley! Pray that this surgery will be successful and that no permanent damage is done. Quite frankly, I am shocked that no Dr. has noticed the spinal cord when they have reviewed his MRI, until now. He has been to UVA and the Cleveland Clinic. His surgeon ordered a new MRI and reviewed it with us. His diagnosis is still the same.
Hey everyone. I finally have time yo post as I am sitting in a boring meeting watching it snow. I am wishing I was at home making soup with the kids. Mom has that luxery today. Haha Might get to do that tomorrow since we are getting a blizzard. That's a far cry from the 70 degrees from last week. Keep us posted on the weather where you guys are as long as we have power. How are those of you in Virginia? I saw where the President postponed his visit there due to weather. Hope everyone has a good day. Stay warm and safe. Love to all
Monica, my response to your question on the blog was what our teachers of long, long ago during the dinosaur era used to say to us in the days when it was not proper English to end a sentence with a proposition, and it just popped into my mind. (You know what they say about old folks--we can remember things from years gone by but not what we did yesterday.) However, nowadays it is perfectly acceptable to end sentences with prepositions. Wonder who makes up all those rules?
