Hello, guys! I am Ruth Treadway Cadle (Ralph's second oldest). What do I remember at Grandma's and Grandpa's? Going there to spend the night off the school bus. Randy and I would be there and Grandma would make fried potatoes and salad with Wishbone Italian Dressing. I thought that salad was to die for, because we never got store bought dressing that I can remember. And it seems that some of us kids always got caught going into the bedroom and pedaling the Singer sewing machine when we would visit. I remember making applebutter in the yard right off the kitchen. And using the handpump to get water. The teakettle always weighed a ton, even empty, because of the sulphur buildup in the bottom from the water. And Grandma always "wormed" us kids with some kind of plant called, the best I remember, "Vermifuse." As nasty as it tasted, it should have been called "Wormifuse." Whatever the real name was, I am sure that I slaughtered it. And Grandma's jelly. Mommy could not make jelly. Her's either ran like syrup or you couldn't get the spoon out of it, it was so thick. I didn't like the pure elderberry jelly though. And Grandma coming to deliver babies. Rita, I remember in particular because Mommy was having a difficult time and Daddy woke me up to be there while he drove to Grandma's to get her. Boy, was I scared. But Grandma showed up, and so did God!
